The spring has finally arrived, and Kazakh sports is surely in bloom. The rather cold Winter Olympic Games in Beijing could not halt the sportsmen from new achievements in the first days of March, 2022.

Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics

Alexandr Gerlits won para biathlon bronze for Kazakhstan in the Men’s 10 kilometers competition. He clocked the distance in 33:06.5 seconds, finishing third 1:21 minutes behind the leader, Canadian para biathlete Mark Arendz. Gerlits will get $75,000 (~38 million tenge) for this victory.

World Cup Speed Skating in Norway

Dmitry Morozov finished 1st in the Men’s 500m Allround event at the ISU World Championships in Hamar, Norway. He clocked the distance in 36.12 seconds finishing first among 20 other speed skaters from all corners of the world. Japanese athlete Riku Tsuchiya was placed second. Norwegian Peder Konghaug finished third.

Asian Taekwondo Clubs Championship in Tehran

Smaiyl Duisebay won gold at the Asian Taekwondo Championship in Iran. He competed in the up to 87-kilogram weight category. The men's taekwondo team won a total of 9 medals, including one gold, two silvers, and six bronzes. The women's team took third place in the overall standings with two silver and four bronze medals.

Asian Boxing Championships in Jordan

Kazakhstan’s boxers made a successful start to the quarterfinals of the Asian Youth and Junior Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan. Team Kazakhstan was represented by five boxers, four of whom were able to reach the semi-finals, thereby guaranteeing themselves at least a bronze medal.
