Kazakhstan to Cooperate with Amazon on Cloud Tech Development

On September 19, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Susan Pointer, Vice President of Amazon Corporation to discuss cooperation in the development of cloud technologies and the construction of data centers, the press service of Akorda reports.

The President drew attention to Kazakhstan's achievements in the e-gov area, emphasizing that further improvement of the digital sphere in our country will require best-in-class infrastructure solutions.

The company expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with Kazakhstan with the prospect of covering the entire Central Asian region.

During the meeting, an agreement was signed between the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan (NIT JSC) and Amazon Web Services to acquire the Outpost cloud solution and launch a pilot project to integrate it with the QazTech platform.

This step will create the conditions for global players to locate data centers in Kazakhstan. It will also realize the country's potential as a regional IT hub.

Following the meeting, Minister of Digital Development Bagdat Mussin explained how Amazon will introduce their software solutions in Kazakhstan.

The parties reached an agreement on the use of Amazon [cloud services] in state services and the installation of government information systems. They also discussed the issues of changing legislation to bring Amazon’s [software] solutions to Kazakhstan, and reached an agreement to change the legislation to make it more flexible and suitable for cloud technologies and [establish] Amazon's operations as a service provider for the entire IT market in the region.
