On September 1 in Astana, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the formation of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation during his address to the people of Kazakhstan, QazMonitor reports.

According to the Head of State, the adoption of water-saving technologies is an urgent matter that necessitates swift actions.

Water resources are as vital for our country as oil, gas, or metals. I believe that the efficient development of the water management system should be entrusted to an independent agency. In light of this, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation will be established.

Violations in this sector will be addressed and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

"At the same time, we cannot do without a new tariff policy that aligns with current realities. The outdated infrastructure is operating at its maximum capacity. The creation of a new tariff policy is the task of the market. Excessive water consumption will result in higher tariffs. In essence, it is imperative to conserve water through every possible means. Additionally, the illicit water market must be completely eradicated. Water is a finite resource, and its availability is pivotal to the survival of our farmers," said Tokayev.
