The government is working on amendments aimed at regulating the internal migration to Astana in the wake of an overload on the city’s infrastructure, QazMonitor reports citing Kazinform.

The annual inflow of migration to Astana stands at approximately 50,000-60,000 people. Each day, 150,000 people from regions of the country and foreign countries visit the capital, placing a significant load on the city's engineering and social infrastructure.

This decision has already received backing from Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Labor and Social Protection Tamara Duisenova. She believes that, given the current situation, this decision is appropriate since the city's social infrastructure isn't adequately prepared to accommodate the migration influx.

"In the current circumstances, considering the overall infrastructure, I believe this decision is the right one. For instance, having 5-6 families reside in a single house creates a negative social situation. We must contemplate whether the city's public clinics and schools can effectively cater to such a large number of citizens," said Duisenova.

She noted that the restrictions will not apply to those who arrive for the purpose of studying or working, given that universities and employers provide suitable living conditions. Additionally, there will be no limitations for those who visit Astana for short-term vacations or medical treatment.
