Kazakhstan's Greco-Roman wrestler Iskhar Kurbayev won a gold medal at the ongoing Under-20 World Championships 2023 in the Jordanian capital Amman, QazMonitor reports citing Sports.kz.

In the weight category under 55 kilograms the Kazakh wrestler won the gold medal, in the final defeating the representative of Azerbaijan with a crushing score of 5:1. Before the final bout against Farid Sadikhli, Iskhar emerged victorious against wrestlers from Turkey, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.

It should be noted that Kurbayev is a double prize-winner at the Asian championships. In 2018, he won the same weight category's bronze medal in the world championship.

Earlier, Kazakhstan's national taekwondo team secured one silver and three bronze medals at the 2023 Chuncheon Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships.
