The former head of the Pavlodar Region Police Department Nurlan Massimov has been sentenced to 10 years in prison with the confiscation of his property, QazMonitor reports citing Tengrinews.kz.

The trial involving Nurlan Massimov, his deputy Damir Sirazidimov, and businessman Yevgeny Yevkovich concluded in the Specialized Inter-District Court on Criminal Cases of the Pavlodar region. The trial, which included a jury, focused on the criminal case against the former head of the regional police department.

Nurlan Massimov was charged with accepting a large-scale bribe, embezzlement or misappropriation of others' property on an especially large scale, and willful illegal crossing of the state border as the ex-head of the Police Department of the Pavlodar region.

"The verdict from the judge of the Specialized Interdistrict Criminal Court of Pavlodar region reads: 'Nurlan Myrzakhanovich Massimov is found guilty under articles 366 part 4, 189 part 4 paragraph 2, and 392 part 1, with confiscation of property. He is also stripped of the second-degree 'Aibyn' order and the special title of Major-General of Police," says the verdict.

During one of the court hearings, he admitted guilt only to the charge of illegal crossing of the state border. Nurlan Massimov deemed all other charges untenable.

Nurlan Massimov was relieved of his post as the chief of police of the Pavlodar region in January 2022.

In April of the previous year, it was discovered that Nurlan Massimov was wanted. Subsequently, the Anti-Corruption Service offered a reward for information regarding his whereabouts. In July, he was apprehended on the border with Russia while in possession of forged documents.

Nurlan Massimov, aged 49, had been leading the Pavlodar region's police department since November 2019.
