The Chinese rolling-stock manufacturer CRRC Tangshan will produce trams for the Astana Light Rail Transit (Astana LRT) project, QazMonitor reports citing Kazinform.

The capital's Department of Transportation and Road Transport Infrastructure Development has noted that the current iteration of the project will incorporate more modern technologies compared to those planned for use in 2011.

"The rolling stock's capacity is planned to be 115 kilowatt-hours, with a maximum capacity of up to 600 people per train. It will have a GoA4 grade of automation. This means the control system will be electrically operated,” says the department.

According to the technical documentation, the project will utilize 60E1 European standard railroad beams, manufactured using carbon steel and known for their high hardness and wear resistance.

Astana LRT is an incomplete light rail transit system in the capital city, the completion of which was infamously postponed several times. Originally, the project was supposed to be commissioned alongside the completion of the Almaty Metro in 2010. However, construction began only in 2017 and was subsequently halted in 2019 when the project's operating company went bankrupt.
