Freight Exports from Kazakhstan to China Grows by 37%

In the first half of 2023, 8.3 million tons of various goods were transported to China

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy summarized the results of the border railroad activity of Kazakhstan and China for H1 2023. During this period, Kazakhstan delivered 8.3 million tons of shipments to China. This figure is 37% higher than in H1 2022, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of KTZ.

In the first half of the year, exports of grain freight through KTZ tripled to amount to 1 million tons, non-ferrous metals exports grew by 55% up to 220,000 tons, vegetable oils — by 70% (75,000 tons), metal ore - by 15% (4 million tons), including 2.6 million tons of iron ore from China, which is 25% more than in H1 2022.

Freight imports to Kazakhstan from China in January-June 2023 amounted to 5.4 million tons (13% growth period-over-period). Imports grew by 13% for passenger cars than in the same period last year, construction freight - by 30%, and chemical freight - by 5%.

Rail freight volume between the countries amounted to 13.7 million tons — 26% more than in the same period last year.
