Margaret Hodge, a member of the British Parliament, said that sanctions should be imposed against "kleptocrats" from other jurisdictions, such as Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, claiming that these states "support Putin".
"Will sanctions be imposed against representatives of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan?"
Answering this question, the head of the British Foreign Office said she would look into the issues around Kazakhstan and other nations. Truss says that so far Britain has been primarily engaged in imposing sanctions on Russia and Belarus.
The British Ambassador was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan to clarify the statements of MP Margaret Hodge.
This is not the first time when the words "sanctions" and "Kazakhstan" are heard in the British Parliament. After the January events, the same MP Margaret Hodge suggested imposing sanctions against the "kleptocratic elite" of Kazakhstan, including members of the family of the country’s former president. She told that Britain has “turned a blind eye to a corrupt elite in Kazakhstan.”
