On June 15, the national railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and the domestic logistics operator Kedentransservice discussed the implementation of a joint cargo terminal in the Chinese dry port of Xi'an with Xi'an Free Trade Port Construction and Operation Co., QazMonitor reports citing the national railway's press service.
During the meeting, the participants considered the technical, organizational, and administrative challenges of the project. The parties reached an agreement to expedite the development of design documentation and registration of a land plot for the terminal. Its commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2023.
The Chinese side also expressed interest in creating a container hub in the port of Aktau to further develop the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. Meanwhile, Kedentransservice is implementing an internal and external terminal network to establish centers for the consolidation and distribution of transit cargo flows, including in the territory of China.
The parties discussed the potential for participation of the Xi'an Free Trade Port in future infrastructure projects of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy. For this purpose, the Chinese delegation visited the logistics terminal at Altynkol railway station, as well as the cities of Almaty and Aktau.
