Kazakhstan Elected as Head of Regional Metrology Organization

With eleven out of sixteen votes in favor, our country is expected to eliminate technical barriers to trade among member states

Winning eleven out of sixteen votes, Kazakhstan was elected as the president of the Euro-Asian Cooperation of National Metrological Institutions (COOMET) at the organization's 34th committee meeting in Astana on May 23, QazMonitor reports citing KazStandard.

The joint forum of metrologists, aimed at facilitating and accelerating the international exchange of goods and services, brought together all sixteen members – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Georgia, Kazakhstan, China, Cuba, the Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Russia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkiye, and Uzbekistan.

Additionally, representatives from international and regional organizations, including the International Bureau of Weights and Measures, the International Organization of Legal Metrology, the Association of Proposal Management Professionals, the Intra-Africa Metrology System, the European Association of National Metrology Institutes, the Gulf Association for Metrology, the Inter-American Metrology System, and the Euro-Asian Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification, presented their reports on the activities for 2022-2023.

Our country was represented by Gabit Mukhambetov, director general of the Institute of Standardization and Metrology.

The election of Kazakhstan is expected to expand the possibilities for providing metrological services and eliminating technical barriers to trade among COOMET member countries. Additionally, the participants discussed the development strategy of the regional organizations for 2023-2025.
