In honor of the 78th anniversary of Victory Day, the 222 veterans of the Great Patriotic War in Kazakhstan will receive a one-time financial aid of at least ₸‎1.5 million, QazMonitor reports citing the ministry of labor and social protection.

On May 9, Kazakhstan commemorates the sacrifice of those who fought to stop the onslaught of World War II. As a part of the USSR, our country drafted more than 1.2 million people to the front. Thousands of our countrymen were awarded medals and orders, and 500 people were named Heroes of the Soviet Union.

Over the years, the government has adopted a variety of measures to provide social protection for war veterans, including monthly social payments. As of May 1, 2023, the average monthly amounts of social payments are:

  • for veterans of the Great Patriotic War – ₸220,754 (161 people)

  • for home front workers during the Great Patriotic War – ₸148,892 (57,436 people)

  • for veterans of combat operations in the territory of other states (Afghanistan, Vietnam, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, and others) – ₸215,201 (25,752 people)

  • for persons with equivalent benefits to those with disabilities resulting from injury, contusion, mutilation, or illness sustained during the war – ₸140,838 (14,424 people)
