Kazakhstan is developing an alternative Internet route through China and Azerbaijan. The construction of the West-East national hyper backbone provides for the output of Chinese traffic through the territory of Kazakhstan and via submarine cable to Azerbaijan further leading to Europe, QazMonitor reports.

The project was announced by Bagdat Mussin, minister of digital development, innovations, and aerospace industry, during a government meeting introducing the pilot national project called "Accessible Internet".

"According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's election platform, to establish the country as a regional digital hub, fiber-optic communication lines of 380-400 kilometers should be laid along the bottom of the Caspian Sea. Construction of the West-East national hyper backbone foresees the exit of Chinese traffic through the territory of Kazakhstan and via submarine cable to Azerbaijan and further to Europe, as well as the creation of a data processing center not lower than Tier-III level to store transit and international traffic," said Mussin.

The implementation of the projects will provide an alternative route for international data transit and attract at least three technology companies to the country's market.
