Football
Kazakhstan lost in the qualifying match with Slovenia
The qualifying match for the European Football Championship 2024 ended in defeat for the Kazakhstan national team against Slovenia with a 1:2 score.
Forward Maksim Samorodov opened the score in the 24th minute, making his debut goal for the Kazakh national team. After the break, the opposing team evened the game thanks to a goal by David Brekalo, and in the 78th minute, Žan Vipotnik netted the second goal, ending the match in favor of Slovenia.
On March 26, Kazakhstan will play against Denmark.
Tennis
Rybakina advances to the third round of Miami Open
World No.7 Elena Rybakina defeated Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya 7:5, 4:6, 6:3 and advanced to the third round of Miami Open.
The Kazakh player scored fourteenth aces and made seven double faults, while her opponent hit one ace and made two double faults. In the third round, Rybakina will face Spain's Paula Badosa.
In doubles, Anna Danilina in a duet with Asia Muhammad beat Paula Badosa and Ons Jabeur 6:4, 6:4, and advanced to the tournament’s second round.
In men’s singles, world No. 48 Alexander Bublik lost in the first round to Jeffrey John Wolf 5:7, 3:6, but in doubles, the Kazakh player in a duet with Miomir Kecmanović advanced to the second round, beating Argentina's Pedro Cachín and Francisco Cerundolo 6:3, 6:3.
Boxing
Kazakh boxers won four bronze medals at the world boxing championship
Alua Balkibekova (under 48 kilograms), Nadezhda Ryabets (66 kg), Valentina Khalzova (75 kg), and Fariza Sholtay (81 kg) finished the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi with four bronze medals.
Karina Ibragimova (under 57 kilograms) and Lyazzat Kungeibayeva (over 81 kilograms) reached the semifinals and will fight for gold in their respective weight divisions.
