Kazakh Ambassador to Tajikistan Valikhan Turekhanov presented a certificate of official humanitarian aid from Kazakhstan in the form of 5,000 tons of fuel oil to the director of the Agency for State Material Reserves Nurmakhmad Ahmadzoda, QazMonitor reports.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had ordered to provide Tajikistan with humanitarian aid worth ₸860,805,000 (about $1.8 million) in order to ensure the stable functioning of important energy facilities of the country.

This winter has been particularly harsh on Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan, due to frequent power and heating outages caused by aging Soviet-era infrastructure.

“Humanitarian aid is a contribution to energy security and a manifestation of brotherhood and mutual assistance, which are inherent in centuries-old relations of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan,” read the press statement of the Kazakh ministry of foreign affairs.

Since 2006, the total volume of humanitarian aid supplied by Kazakhstan to Tajikistan exceeded $44 million.
