A 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Turkiye and northwestern Syria on February 6 causing large-scale destruction and a large number of casualties. So far, about 5,000 people have been confirmed dead and more than tens of thousands injured.

President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared a state of emergency in the affected areas and requested international aid.

Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ordered the government to send humanitarian aid to Turkiye and dispatch emergency assistance in the affected areas.
