Elena Rybakina defeated Victoria Azarenka in the semifinals of the Australian Open, QazMonitor reports.
The first set of the match at Rod Laver Arena was a close-to-win for both players, though Rybakina managed to beat her opponent only in the tie-break, finishing 7-6 (7-4).
The second and final set began with a first game won by Azarenka, but the Kazakh tennis player followed up with a 3-game winning streak. Azarenka won Game 5, but Elena Rybakina had a strong win against the player from Belarus – 6-3.
Elena Rybakina will compete for her second Grand Slam champion title in the final match on January 28. Kazakhstan’s no.1 will face the winner of today’s match between Magda Linette and Aryna Sabalenka.
