Almaty airport management announced that the construction of the new international terminal will be finished in the first half of 2024, QazMonitor reports citing the Civil Aviation Committee.
Alp Er Tunga Ersoy, president of the Almaty International Airport, told the minister of industry and infrastructural development Marat Karabayev construction is progressing according to schedule.
Upon completion, the new terminal is expected to significantly increase passenger traffic, which passed the 7 million mark in 2022. The infrastructure will also enable the creation of more flight routes and provide a higher level of comfort to travelers.
Minister Karabayev gave instructions to improve services and facilities at the airport and develop a more prompt response to passenger complaints.
The construction of the international terminal began in June 2022. The terminal will be designated for international flights only, while the current terminal will be used for domestic flights. Over $200 million was invested in the project.
