The world arm wrestling championship belt will stay with Kydyrgali Ongarbayev after he defended his title against American arm wrestling legend Michael Todd in Istanbul, QazMonitor reports citing Sports.kz.
Ongarbayev came face to face with Todd, who only competes at big prize money shows, at the East vs. West tournament.
The match opened with Todd getting the upper hand with a first-round victory. In the second round, the American broke the rules by trying to wrestle his arm out of Ongarbayev's grip and received a penalty point. The next two rounds were won by Ongarbayev. The match ended with a score of 3:1.
The Kazakh arm wrestler won the world championship in the 105kg weight class. Earlier, Aidarkhan Nurdaulet defeated Lithuania's Mindaugas Tarasaitis to become the world champion in the under-75kg class.
Both Kazakhs posed on the podium wearing helmets and shields in their hands.
