UAE’s renewable energy company Masdar will develop 1 GW wind power plants in the Turkistan and Zhambyl regions of Kazakhstan, QazMonitor reports.

As part of his state visit to Abu Dhabi, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Masdar CEO Mohammed Jameel Al Ramahi. The Abu Dhabi developer signed an agreement with Kazakhstan’s ministry of energy and Kazakhstan Investment Development Fund to help the country reach its carbon neutrality goal by 2060.

President Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan has set a target to increase the share of renewable energy sources from 4 to 15 percent by 2030.

Kazakhstan is the latest addition to Masdar’s Central Asia venture. Just a week ago, the company signed a deal with Kyrgyzstan’s energy ministry to develop a 200MW solar plant alongside numerous other green energy projects.

Last year, Masdar agreed to build a 500MW wind farm in Uzbekistan and closed a huge offshore wind and green hydrogen deal in Azerbaijan.
