Kazakhstan took part in the 13th assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) that kicked off on January 14 in Abu Dhabi, QazMonitor reports.

IRENA is an intergovernmental organization that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation.

The Assembly, which was attended by delegates from 168 countries, was chaired by the Director General of IRENA, Francesco La Camera.

Deputy Energy Minister Zhandos Nurmaganbetov said that Kazakhstan pays great attention to the development of renewable energy sources.

The country plans to become a carbon-neutral country by 2060 and will stay committed to fulfilling its obligations under the Paris Agreement by diversifying energy sources in the long run, he continued.

During a bilateral meeting with the IRENA leadership, the Kazakh delegation discussed the idea of hosting a Central Asia seminar in Kazakhstan. The seminar will be dedicated to the collaboration between neighboring countries to accelerate the region’s transition to renewable energy sources.
