A Kazakh athlete won a gold medal at the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games, QazMonitor reports citing Vesti.kz.
The first gold for Kazakhstan was won in the biathlon. Vadim Kurales was the best in the men's 15km individual race, finishing 42.6 seconds ahead of Norway's Ørjan Moseng and 1 minute 16.5 seconds ahead of France's Alex Garnier who took silver and bronze respectively.
Another Kazakh biathlete, Alexandr Mukhin, finished sixth.
Kurales's gold is Kazakhstan's first medal in the competition taking place in New York, the US.
The World University Games will run until January 22.
