Kazakhstan, together with the UN’s Refugee Agency (UNHCR), sent humanitarian aid to the victims of the devastating earthquake in Afghanistan, QazMonitor reports citing the UNHCR’s press service.

It is estimated that the June 2022 earthquake led to the death of over 1,000 people, among which 300 were children. Seventy percent of the homes in the districts of Barmal, Giyan, and Spera were either damaged or completely destroyed.

Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Afghanistan Alimkhan Yessengeldiyev has visited the Barmal district in the southeast Paktika province with UN representatives to distribute the humanitarian aid donated by Kazakhstan.

About 2,000 household kits containing clothes, beds, and mattresses were sent by the Kazakh side to the earthquake zone where it was received by four settlements - Wara, Subha-Khel, Dewari, and Ragzai.
