Kazakhstan Restricts Timber Export to Develop Woodworking Industry

The 6-month ban should prevent illegal re-export

On December 9, Kazakhstan introduced a ban on the export of certain timber, QazMonitor reports citing the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development.

"The ban is introduced in order to develop the woodworking industry and to prevent the illegal re-export of timber from the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The ban was introduced by Order 690 of the Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 7, 2022 "On some issues of regulating the export of certain types of timber products." which came into force on December 9, 2022," the Ministry stated.

This order will be valid for six months and provides for a ban on exports from the Republic of Kazakhstan of certain types of timber (EAEU CN of FEA codes 4401, 4403, 4404, 4406, and 4407), except for EAEU CN of FEA code 4406910000 "Softwood ties for railways or tramways, treated’.
