About 50 kulans were transported from Altyn-Emel National Park to the Ile-Balkhash reserve, QazMonitor reports citing the ministry of ecology, geology, and natural resources.
The animals were placed in a special enclosure of 22 hectares for soft adaptation. They will be released into their natural habitats in 5-7 months.
The reintroduction of Bukhara deer in the territory of the reserve began back in 2018. The specially protected natural area introduced 17 deer in 2019, 30 in 2020, 53 in 2021, and 54 in 2022, of which 15 were kept in enclosures.
Two photo traps were installed to track the movement of red-listed animals in their release area.
The return of ungulates to the wild nature of the Balkhash region is an important stage of the tiger reintroduction program, organized by the Committee of Forestry and Fauna with the support of WWF Russia and UNDP in Kazakhstan.
