Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina has been nominated for the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Player of the Year, QazMonitor reports citing the National Olympic Committee’s press service.
After the 2022 WTA Finals in Fort Worth, the WTA is celebrating the end of a season by distributing awards for all the hard work displayed this year.
The list of contenders for the title of "Player of the Year" has been released and among the nominees stands Elena Rybakina, who sensationally won this year’s Wimbledon.
Other nominees include:
Iga Swiatek, who became the new world number 1 and managed to claim two Grand Slam titles
World number 2, Ons Jaber, who played two major finals this year and became the champion of tournaments in Madrid and Berlin
Caroline Garcia, who won the 2022 WTA finals
World number 3 and Guadalajara tournament champion Jessica Pegula
Coco Gauff, who is world number 7
