The second track of the Dostyk–Moyinty railroad section has been laid in the Karagandy region, QazMonitor reports citing the Central Communications Service.

Alikhan Smailov, prime minister of Kazakhstan, joined the launching ceremony via conference call to deliver a speech on the project’s importance. Heads of the central and local executive bodies, Samruk-Kazyna Fund, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, railway workers, and industry veterans also attended the ceremony.

The construction of the whole railroad infrastructure, which will also include 419 bridges, culverts, overpasses as well as energy and communication facilities, is scheduled to be completed in the 4th quarter of 2025.

The 836km stretch of railway that connects Dostyk (Almaty region) and Moyinty (Karagandy) is part of a network of railroads designed to increase Kazakhstan’s transit potential through uninterrupted exports of domestic products.

According to Smailov, over the past five years, the volume of transit container transportation in the country has increased 4.4 times. During the first 10 months of 2022, the cargo export turnover was over 74 billion ton-kilometers, which is 11% more than last year.

Considering the figures, the construction of more railway infrastructure projects was calculated to significantly increase the throughput capacity by 5 times – from 12 to 60 pairs of trains.

The network of railroad projects includes the Dostyk - Moyinty, Bakhty - Ayagoz, Darbaza - Maktaaral lines, and the bypass around Almaty among others.

The prime minister said the production of sleepers, rails, transformers, and supply of inert materials, sand, and crushed stone will be carried out by local companies. About 3,700 people will be employed for the construction, and 500 people will get permanent jobs related to operating the railway.

"The project will help increase budget revenues by 4.1 trillion tenge within 20 years", Smailov noted.
