Two Kazakh Universities Among Top 100 in QS Asia University Rankings 2023

Two Kazakh universities entered the QS ranking for the top 100 universities in Asia, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of the Kazakh ministry of science and higher education.

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) appeared in the top 50 list of the QS Asia University Rankings 2023, taking 44th place. This is the first time the Almaty-based university made the ranking that features world-renowned universities such as Peking University, the National University of Singapore, the University of Tokyo, Yonsei University, and more.

L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU), located in Astana, ranked 96th.

QS Asia University Rankings 2023 analyzed the performance of 760 universities. The method retains the key indicators of the global ranking but also takes into account a set of performance indicators carefully selected for the region.

The 11 indicators used to compile the list are as follows: academic reputation (30%); employer reputation (20%); teacher-to-student ratio (10%); international research network (10%); citations per article (10%) and articles by teachers (5%); staff with doctoral degrees (5%); the share of foreign teachers (2.5%) and the share of foreign students (2.5%); and the share of incoming exchange students (2.5%) and the share of outgoing exchange students (2.5%).

Kazakhstan also had the widest representation in the ranking for Central Asian countries with 32 universities. The top three universities in Central Asia are all from Kazakhstan. They also occupy the highest positions on indicators related to international recognition.

KazNU ranked first in the QS Asia University Rankings 2023: Central Asia list. The university has the highest indicators of academic reputation and reputation among employers in the Central Asian region, followed by ENU and Satbayev University.

According to Education Minister Sayasat Nurbek, "these results demonstrate the growth of international recognition of Kazakh higher education.”
