An integrated gas-chemical complex Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc. LLP with the capacity to produce 500,000 tons of polypropylene per year was launched in the Atyrau region, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of Akorda.
During a working visit to the region, president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev initiated the enterprise’s launch, which will employ 631 people on its premises. According to the chairman of the board of NC KazMunayGas JSC Magzum Mirzagaliyev, the plant will specialize in the processing of raw materials from the Tengiz field, which, combined with its producing capacity, will account for 1% of the global polypropylene production.
It’s expected that the plant’s production will meet the demand in the domestic market, as well as contribute to small and medium enterprises producing polypropylene products for the construction and medical sectors, automotive and food industries.
Additionally, the complex is supplied with the Catofin and Novolen technologies used in polypropylene production by the American company Lummus Technology Inc. Similar plants function only in Saudi Arabia, the US, Belgium, South Korea and China.
