Kazakhstan Takes 3 Short Track Medals at World Cup in Salt Lake City

Abzal Azhgaliev takes first silver at the 5,000 meter race

Team Kazakhstan bagged three medals at the ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup in Salt Lake City on Sunday and today, QazMonitor reports citing Olympic.kz.

On Sunday, Abzal Azhgaliev took the silver medal in the 500 meters race. Canada's Maxim Laun finished first and South Korean Lee Jung-So earned third place.

The next day, Denis Nikisha captured silver after finishing second in the 500-meter event while Adil Galiakhmetov placed third in the 1,000-meter event.

The men’s team is represented by Abzal Azhgaliev, Nurtilek Kazhgali, Adil Galiakhmetov, Denis Nikisha, Yerkebulan Shamukhanov, and Anton Hvan.

The women’s team consists of Alina Azhgalieva, Yana Khan, Malika Yermek, Alena Volkovitskaya, Anastasia Astrakhantseva, and Olga Tikhonova.

Kazakhstan now ranks ninth in the world 5,000m rankings (1,094 points).
