Kazakh Representative Elected Vice-Chair of Aviation Security at ICAO

Kazakhstan’s inclusion will strengthen its position in Central Asia as the region’s aviation hub

Deputy general director of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan (AAK) Darkhan Yespotanov was elected as an aviation security vice-chair at the ICAO meeting in Paris, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of the Civil Aviation Committee.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is an agency of the United Nations specializing in the principles of international navigation, and the development and air transport safety. The organization’s Council adopts standards and practices of navigation, infrastructure and flight inspection.

The 10th meeting of the ICAO European/North Atlantic Special Security Group - Europe and North Atlantic is being held in Paris, France, from November 1-4. The group’s agenda concerns the civil aviation challenges and recent developments that the member states have to address.

During the meeting, the Kazakh representative, along with the candidate from Latvia, was voted in as one of the vice-chairs, while a representative from France was elected as the group’s chair.

According to AAK, Kazakhstan’s inclusion in the security group will strengthen the country’s overall position in Central Asia and will serve its development as the region’s aviation hub.
