Gulziya Kurmankan, a school math teacher from Uzynagash village in the Almaty region, was awarded the Bolashak International Scholarship. Gulziya will study Mathematics Education at the University of South Florida, QazMonitor reports citing Bolashak press service.
The teacher studied English as an absolute beginner on her own via online lessons and lecture videos. She spent 5-6 hours every day mastering the language, which allowed her to score 7 out of 9 on the IELTS test [which is a sufficient score for most universities and majors].
"Without leaving my home village, I successfully passed the competition for the Bolashak scholarship. I studied in an ordinary village school, where I'm working now, and could not even imagine that I would have the opportunity to study at the best university in the world. I am sure that knowledge and belief in yourself will always help you to achieve what you wish. And I want my students to also have the opportunity to get the best education in the world. I hope many will be inspired by my example," Gulziya Kurmankan shared.
