As the spring holiday season brings families and friends together to kick off the new year, the Kazakh diaspora in California brought home sweet home to Granada Park in Alhambra, California. Every year, @californiaqazaqcommunity celebrates Nauryz to spread awareness of our culture and joy to those who dearly miss it.
Just like in Kazakhstan, the Nauryz party was packed with entertainment programs and food (how can we live without the sweet taste of nauryz-kozhe, and bauyrsak?).
The program included dance numbers and songs in the native Kazakh language, aitys, and games, like tug-of-war and wrestling.⠀
It is said that Kazakhs came from all over the state of California.
The celebration also included a beauty contest called "Mrs.Nauryz 2022". To win the title, women competed in four holiday-themed disciplines: Best traditional dress, National Food Cook-off, Nauryz Trivia Quiz, and "Who is the fastest" contest.⠀
The event was also joined by Kazakhstani boxer Madiyar Ashkeev and Honored Artist of Kazakhstan Marat Omarov.⠀
Happy Nauryz 2022!
