In commemoration of Abay Day, which honors the memory of a renowned Kazakh poet, the Culture Ministry presented data on the extensive influence of his legacy on toponyms across Kazakhstan, QazMonitor reports citing the ministry’s press service.

On August 10, Kazakhstan celebrates the legacy of Abay Kunanbayuly and his poetic works, with this year marking the 178th anniversary of the poet's birth.

Throughout Kazakhstan, a total of 1441 streets, 99 schools, 28 settlements, 12 avenues, 4 colleges, 3 districts, and 1 city, as well as 1 theater are named after him. Furthermore, the last year's presidential decree established the Abay region with the city of Semey as its administrative center.

"Over 30 monuments to Abay Kunanbayuly have been erected across Kazakhstan. Furthermore, 18 other countries around the world have installed monuments to the poet. Notably, cities like Tashkent, Moscow, and Bishkek boast Abay monuments, while his busts are placed in Rennes, Beijing, Cairo, Budapest, Tehran, Istanbul, New Delhi, Geneva, Paris, Sarajevo, Tbilisi, Berlin, Seoul, Kharkiv, and Baku," said Arman Zhudebayev, the vice-minister of culture and sport.
