A 73-year-old traveler who hiked all across Kazakhstan last year, Sarsenbay Kotyrashov, is setting out on a new journey, now encompassing not just our country but the whole world, QazMonitor reports citing Khabar.

After realizing his lifelong wish of seeing the vast lands of his home country and popularizing his native Ulytau region, the traveler now wants to circumvent the world. On August 2, he plans to start his two-part journey in Atyrau, one of Kazakhstan’s westernmost cities, and over the course of the next two years, traverse about 16,200 kilometers to arrive in the city of Oskemen in Eastern Kazakhstan. This figure is twice as long as last year’s journey, as the traveler intends to walk across all of Europe, the U.S., China, and Mongolia.

“On August 2, I will start [the journey] in Atyrau. From there, I will go to Astrakhan, Dagestan, Chechnya, Georgia, and end in Turkiye. There, I will visit Ankara and Istanbul. This will be the first stage of the journey around the Earth. I will start the second stage next year,” concluded Kotyrashov.
