Trail cameras at the Charyn National Park caught a glimpse of a wandering Turkestan lynx, QazMonitor reports citing the park’s press service.

This isn't the first time this feline species has been caught on camera at Charyn. Trail cameras installed near the Boguty Mountains site captured the sight of animals in 2020-2021, and now again in May this year.

The Turkestan lynx (Lynx lynx isabellinus), a rare and understudied subspecies of the Eurasian lynx, is native to Central Asia and inhabits harsh mountain environments. In Kazakhstan, it is present along the northern borders of the Tian-Shan mountain range. This elusive species is listed in the country’s Red Book due to dwindling populations caused by widespread habitat loss across all of Central and South Asia.
