Kazakh composer David Litvinov received a nomination for Best Composer at the Cannes Shorts film festival, QazMonitor reports.

Litvinov is a Petropavl-based composer who works for the Pogodin Regional Drama Theater. In 2022, he and a team of local filmmakers participated in the 48-Hour Film Race (48hfr), a film festival in Central Asia where contestants have to shoot a short film in under 48 hours.

The composer wrote music for the short film titled Victoria in a matter of a day, and the movie went on to win in the category of Best Drama.

Shortly after, Litvinov decided to submit his music to Cannes Shorts, an international short-film festival in the city of Cannes, France.

On January 3, he received an official nomination from the festival’s committee, becoming one of the five nominees for the Best Composer award.
