The Kazakh film about domestic violence “Happiness” has been added to the 80th Golden Globe Awards long list in the Non-English Language Films category, QazMonitor reports.
Based on true events, "Happiness" tells the story of a couple that has been married for 23 years, during which the wife has faced constant physical and emotional abuse by her alcoholic husband. The film further reveals the vicious cycle of abuse when their pregnant daughter seems to be on the verge of making the same mistakes her mother once made.
Directed by Askar Uzabayev, the movie has seen praise at the Berlin International Film Festival in February of this year, when it was given the Audience Award in the “Panorama” section.
