Turkish Power Producer Invests $700 Million in Shymkent Power Plant

Aksa Energy's project will create about 200 permanent jobs after commissioning

Turkish power producer Aksa Energy will build a 500 MW combined cycle gas turbine plant in Shymkent, QazMonitor reports citing the city’s administration press service.

What happened: The Head of Shymkent, Gabit Syzdykbekov, met with Murad Ustel, External Affairs Manager at Aksa Energy, and signed a memorandum for implementing the combined cycle gas turbine plant in the city. Construction will begin in the near future.

  • The plant will generate 500 MW of power, supplying reliable electricity, heating, and hot water to the city. Officials anticipate it will improve Shymkent's environment.

  • The project will cost $700 million and create over 1,000 jobs for locals during construction, and about 200 permanent jobs after commissioning.

Aksa Energy: Founded in 1997 in Istanbul, Aksa Energy is Turkiey’s biggest publicly listed independent power producer. It operates in seven countries, including Uzbekistan, where it recently built combined cycle gas turbine plants in Bukhara and Tashkent starting from 2020. So far, the company has constructed and operated 30 power plants using different energy sources, including coal, fuel oil, biogas, natural gas, wind, and hydroelectricity.
