Kazakhstan Sees Over 27 Thousand Companies Liquidated in 2023

Growing since 2020, the figure marked an all-time record in the country

In 2023, Kazakhstan witnessed a surge in the liquidation of companies, with over 27 thousand legal entities being dissolved throughout the year. This marked a 0.7% increase compared to the previous year and set a record for the country. This trend of increasing liquidations persisted for three consecutive years, finprom.kz reports.

In Q4 2023, the number of dissolved legal entities amounted to 13 thousand businesses, marking a substantial 26.1% increase compared to the same period in 2022. This figure also represented a 3.6-fold increase over the Q3 2023.

Almaty city saw the highest number of companies liquidated, totaling 8.2 thousand entities, followed by Astana (3.1 thousand companies), the Aktobe region (1.5 thousand companies), the Karagandy region (1.5 thousand companies), and Shymkent (1.5 thousand companies).

Most of the dissolved businesses were small enterprises, constituting 99.8% of the total number, comprising just over 27 thousand entities, a 0.7% increase y/y. As for medium-sized and large enterprises, 38 and 15 companies were liquidated correspondingly.

In January–December of 2023, trade, car, and motorcycle repair fields saw the highest number of liquidations, totaling 8.8 thousand companies — a 10.5% decrease y/y. Construction company liquidations ranked second at 3.2 thousand, followed by professional, scientific and technical services (1.6 thousand), and manufacturing industry (1.3 thousand).
