American Company Plans to Invest $1B in Kazakhstan's Logistics

Wabtec plans to launch the production of hydrogen locomotives in Kazakhstan

On September 17, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Wabtec's CEO, Rafael Santana, in New York to discuss the prospects for reconstruction of the Kazakh railroad industry, QazMonitor reports.

The American company plans to launch the production of locomotives using hydrogen technologies in Kazakhstan, establish an engineering center, and facilitate technology transfer. Furthermore, Wabtec intends to invest approximately $1 billion in the country’s transportation and logistics industry.

The Kazakh side emphasized that this investment will contribute to the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and serve as the foundation for other infrastructure projects.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy national railway company and Wabtec signed a framework agreement on strategic cooperation.
