Over the last five years, the construction industry has remained one of the fastest-growing sectors in Kazakhstan, with a growth rate of 10.2% in 2022, amounting to ₸6,304.3 billion, QazMonitor reports citing the Bureau of National Statistics.
Construction work grew in volume in eighteen regions, with notable growths observed in Akmola (39.6%), Almaty (29.1%), Atyrau (18.8%), Kyzylorda (17.7%), North Kazakhstan (12.5%), Ulytau (12.5%) regions, as well as Shymkent city (35.8%).
However, two regions, Mangystau (18.5%) and Karagandy (5.5%), had a decline in construction activity.
In 2022, there was also a drop in the total floor area of commissioned housing, which dropped by 7.4% compared to 2021, amounting to 15,666.5 m2. This figure included 40,368 apartment buildings (9,095.4 m2) and 2,475 houses (6,490.8 m2).
Housing commissioning declined in Ulytau (22.4%), Mangystau (14.4%), North Kazakhstan (12.9%), and Atyrau (7.8%) regions, as well as Astana (23.4%) and Almaty (27.3%).
On the other hand, housing commissioning grew in fourteen regions, with the most significant growth observed in Pavlodar (32.1%) and East Kazakhstan (16.3%) regions.
Local private construction companies accounted for 77.8% of the total volume of construction work in the country, followed by foreign companies at 21.9%, and state organizations at 0.3%.
