Kazakhstan Hit 10-year High in Foreign Direct Investments in 2022

Kazakh MFA reports $28 billion of gross FDI reached last year

By the end of 2022, the gross foreign direct investment inflow to Kazakhstan reached $28 billion – the highest amount in the last decade, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of the MFA.

The inflow shows a 17.7% increase compared to $23.8 in 2021. In comparison, in 2012 the direct investments amounted to $28.9 billion.

By countries, the Netherlands invested the most – $8.3 billion, the USА – $5.1 billion, Switzerland – $2.8 billion, Belgium – $1.6 billion, Russia – $1.5 billion, South Korea – $1.5 billion, China – $1.4 billion, France – $770 million, the United Kingdom – $661 million, Germany – $469.5 million.

By sectors, the largest inflows were in mining – $12.1 billion (a 25% increase), manufacturing – $5.6 billion (+2.7%), wholesale and retail trade – $5.1 billion (+36%), professional, scientific, and technical activities – $1.2 billion (2.2-time increase), transport and warehousing – $1.2 billion (+13.5%).

By region, Atyrau region had the highest level of investment with $8.3 billion (+48.3%), Almaty – $7.6 billion (+10.9%), Astana – $2.2 billion (+107.2%), East Kazakhstan region – $2.2 billion (+3.1%), Aktobe region – $1.2 billion (a decline of 11.2%).
