Chinese Company to Establish Institute for Genomic Research in Astana

The Institute is expected to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of diseases in Kazakhstan

On October 17, at the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, Astana Medical University and the Medical Center Hospital of the President’s Affairs Administration signed a memorandum with the Chinese genomics company BGI Group to establish the Institute for Genomic Research in Astana, QazMonitor reports citing the Ministry of Healthcare.

BGI Group is one of the world's leading organizations in the field of biomedical sciences and genomics, with operations in more than 100 countries globally. Collaborative efforts on the Institute are anticipated to advance the development, implementation, and enhancement of genomic technologies for diagnosing and treating a wide range of diseases in Kazakhstan.

Additionally, Astana Medical University signed a cooperation agreement with Shanghai United Imaging Healthcare, a company specializing in the provision, development, and production of high-performance advanced medical imaging, radiotherapy equipment, and life science instruments.

The Chinese company has agreed to establish a training center for radiology and telemedicine at Astana Medical University. Within the scope of this training center, leading specialists from around the world will provide training for local doctors, teaching staff, and students.
